Jeff Hammerbacher, Co-Founder and Vice President of Products, Named a Top Tech Entrepreneur Under 30

SAN FRANCISCO, CA–(Marketwire – April 22, 2010) – Cloudera, the commercial Apache Hadoop company, today announced that Jeff Hammerbacher, Co-founder and Vice President of Products, has been named a 2010 Best Young Tech Entrepreneur by Bloomberg BusinessWeek.

Bloomberg BusinessWeek compiled the list of 15 young people, age 30 and under, who are steering the most promising technology startups. Input was gathered from venture capitalists, angel investors, readers, and editorial staff.

“It’s an honor that Bloomberg BusinessWeek is recognizing the significant advancement we’ve made in data management,” said Hammerbacher. “Large web properties like Facebook are seeing serious business value from data analysis, and that’s what my work has centered on — data analytics functionality. I believe that the increasing quantity and complexity of data collected by enterprises creates a huge opportunity for Hadoop and for Cloudera. Cloudera is at the intersection of these trends and is enabling enterprises to harness the power of their data using Hadoop.”

Prior to starting Cloudera with his three co-founders, Hammerbacher conceived, built, and led the Data team at Facebook, which was responsible for driving many of the applications of statistics and machine learning at Facebook, as well as building out the infrastructure to support these tasks for massive data sets. The Data team produced the open source projects Hive and Cassandra, which are now in use at companies like Netflix, Digg, Twitter, Taobao, and Rackspace.

Fellow Co-founder Christophe Bisciglia won the award in 2009, making the 2010 award Cloudera’s second Best Young Tech Entrepreneur recognition in two years. Bisciglia is the Vice President of Educational Services, running the Hadoop training and certification program.

Cloudera provides products, professional services, technical support and training that enhance the Apache Hadoop platform, enabling enterprises to lower their data-processing costs and get more value from the information they collect and generate. Hadoop is widely used in finance, government, telecom, media and entertainment, technology, research institutions and other markets.
